Tired of buying seeds every year? Want to take your organic farm or garden to the next level? Want to conserve biodiversity? Want to save the world?!
If you answered yes to any of these questions, you ought to give seed saving a try! Come learn why seed saving is so important and how you can contribute to the Cleveland Seed Bank, while meeting others with shared interests. In this introductory course, we will cover the basic information and techniques you need to start saving your own seeds. No background knowledge is required.
Presenter Bio: Eden Kinkaid is a recent graduate of Ohio University’s Honors Tutorial College. She earned a B.S. in Environmental and Plant Biology, with a focus on food systems and agricultural ecology. She has pursued her interests in sustainable farming through various internships and trainings, as well as pouring her passion into her own gardens. In 2012, she apprenticed with a local seed saver to create a seed saving guide as part of a community food security effort. Additionally, she spent the last year in India on a Fulbright grant at Vandana Shiva’s School of the Seed learning about organic farming, agricultural politics, and farmers’ rights. Now that she is back in the United States, she is excited to get involved in initiatives in Ohio and beyond.
