Crete, Greece: Crete’s Culinary Sanctuaries Educational Network, 5-Day Seminars on Biodiversity and Gastronomy. Dates: September 20-25 and October 11-16, 2021.
An experiential learning program with expert presentations at historic sites, nature reserves, and visits with award-winning organic farmers-heirloom seed savers, olive oil producers and vintners. Discover the components of traditional and modern Cretan cuisine during pro cooking classes and meals. As part of this cultural immersion experience, attendees stay in private apartments in an historic village. Space is limited to 12 adult attendees.
Crete’s Culinary Sanctuaries Educational Network was formed in 1997 to support residents working hard to protect and share their heritage. CCS teachers include archaeologists, botanists, herbalists, agroecologists, organic farmers, heirloom seed savers, chefs, and musicians. Over 3,000 university students, teachers, doctors, and journalists have attended CCS accredited seminars.
CCS is an award-winning program for Best Practices in Community-Based Sustainable Tourism, featured in National Geographic publications, The New York Times, NPR, IFOAM, Agroecology Europe, Archaeology Magazine, Routledge Handbooks, Food Tank, ECOCLUB, and UNWTO. CCS Founder, Nikki Rose, is author of “Crete: The Roots of the Mediterranean Diet” and adviser on similar initiatives around the world.
