On Sunday, Sept. 21, the Organic Consumers Association will join the People’s Climate March, expected to be the largest climate march in history.
We’re marching with a message of warning. And a message of hope.
Join Vandana Shiva and the OCA as we march under the “Cook Organic, Not the Planet” banner on Sept. 21, in New York City.
A growing number of scientists have concluded that our modern energy-, chemical- and (GMO)-intensive industrial food and farming systems, which emit tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, are the major cause of man-made global warming.
That’s the bad news. The good news is, we can fix it.
According to the Rodale Institute, recent data from farming trials around the globe show that we could sequester more than 100 percent of current annual CO2 emissions by transitioning to “regenerative agriculture.”
Which simply means that by using existing, low-tech, tried-and-true organic farming practices—practices that include composting and planned grazing, fostering biodiversity as a means of preventing crop loss from insects and disease, and relying on organic matter to improve soil and increase yields, instead of drenching crops in toxic fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides—we can reverse global warming. How do we make the transition?
By returning to a system of economic justice that supports the world’s 2 billion family farmers (instead of Monsanto and GMO farmers) with better subsidies and incentives, better access to resources and more Fair Trade policies.
Food justice activist Vandana Shiva, author of Soil Not Oil, is an eloquent spokesperson for both this message of warning and the message of hope. And she’s coming to New York City to march with OCA under the “Cook Organic, Not the Planet” banner.
Join Vandana Shiva and march with us under the “Cook Organic, Not the Planet” banner for the People’s Climate March on Sunday, Sept. 21, in New York City.
