In celebrating World Food Day, Surabaya Diocese concentrate their activities in the parish of St. Mateus, Pare, Kediri. Inspired by Pope Francis’s second encyclical titled Laudato si’: On Care For Our Common Home, this year’s celebration of World Food Day is focused on reminding people to think about their consumerism pattern in their day to day life and how it is affected other aspects of their surroundings. As Pope Francis says in his encyclical, “I urgently appeal, then, for a new dialogue about how we are shaping the future of our planet. We need a conversation which includes everyone, since the environmental challenge we are undergoing, and its human roots, concern and affect us all.”
Activities to be undertaken in this event are: art performance, seminar on agroecology, tree planting, cooking class using local and organic ingredients, seed breeding workshop, cooking competition using breadfruit as main ingredient, organic products exhibition and waste management.
