The U.S.-based agricultural company will have to fully compensate farmer Paul Francois.
A French court Thursday found the United States-based agribusiness giant Monsanto, notorious for its development of genetically modified organisms and chemical products, guilty of poisoning a farmer.
The court’s decision comes after the corporation appealed a 2012 ruling that had originally found the company responsible for diseasing the man.
In May, Monsanto lawyers insisted – during a court hearing – that the herbicide being used by farmer Paul Francois was not dangerous.
The sentence forces the corporation to fully compensate the farmer for the damage inflicted upon his health.
