About The World on Plate film festival
The World on a Plate film festival (known abroad as festival AlimenTerre), is organised by Glopolis, a think tank that actively raises awareness about global food challenges.
In the past five years, the festival has become a reference event for all people interested to learn and debate how food shapes the world for better or for worse.
Through documentary film screenings, debates with experts and side-events, the festival is also a moment to discover positive food alternatives that are spreading around us.
The World on a Plate film festival is organized every year in Prague, at the occasion of the World Food Day (16th October), and is also growing throughout the Czech Republic through the Země na Talíři network that organizes local screenings and events in regions.
Festival in 2015, Oct. 12 to 14 in Prague, Oct. 23 to 25 in Ostrava, CZ
Food is a need, food is a pleasure, food is a matter of personal preferences. Very rightly, we hear as well that food is our first medicine. But how often do we think of food as power?
Food is power because our everyday food choices shape the world we live in. No need to wear tight blue pantyhose, a red cape and take flying courses to start seriously fighting deforestation, water pollution, privatization of humanity´s resources and climate change or to address the root causes of world poverty, insecurity and migration. Three times a day, no matter if young or old, by choosing food more consciously, we can contribute to a fairer and more sustainable world.
That is why this year, The World on a Plate film festival aims to celebrate and wake up all hidden everyday heroes inside us…: all those who are starting to eat more consciously, grow their own food, opt for sustainable methods of production, reduce their meat consumption and food wastage, search for their local farmer and are ready to look for good food that is also good for society and the planet.
Come, watch and discuss it more at The World on a Plate film festival. This year’s selection of six documentary films, most of them premieres in the Czech Republic, will uncover the true face of food wastage; the dangerous omnipresence of sugar in our lives; how small farmers’ land and seeds are being stolen; how to feed 10 billion people in 2050; and how people at the local level are starting to create change.
